Crank the rebound to MAX during the climb and the fork doesn't move much, even when out of the saddle. In fact, I rarely use the EEC much anymore. It hasn't slowed me down in the twisties, it climbs well and the EEC (ETA) works on those long ascents. In my opinion the Z1 works great on this bike. The bike with this fork added another 10% to my confidence level. The Z1 fork can be set from too plush to too stiff (i.e. I installed the Z1 FR SL (130mm) and it opened a new world. The bike handled great in the slower tight single track native to my area, but felt nervous at speeds over 20mph. I orginally installed an '03 Marathon (105mm) but it lacked the plushness I was looking for. Its a matter of opinion, but the fork works great for me. I have an '03 Marzocchi Z1 FR SL mounted on my XCE and I weigh about 200lbs.
